After many years as a teacher, I felt I needed a change of direction and decided to study painting. I attended many workshops with practising artists whose work I admired and did a year’s course at the City of Bath College. We then went to live in south-west France where I was fortunate to meet someone who helped me to expand my creative techniques. She is an abstract painter – the French are still hugely enthusiastic about abstract art in general – and my experience with her moved my own art in new directions.
I now create semi-abstract images, mainly inspired by the natural world. I really enjoy experimenting with colour, texture and a variety of media and processes and I hope that the paintings that I make reflect reflect my deep love of all the beauty and delight in what is around us.
