Jenny Hicks
Jenny Hicks Ceramics – Stawley Mill Happenings
Jenny’s work combines the ancient to the modern, using traditional hand-building techniques to produce unique contemporary sculptural ceramic vessels.
Each piece is individually decorated by using a method known as ‘sgraffito’, carving through a coloured layer of slip down to the clay below.
After working abroad for many years as a tour guide, her designs are largely influenced by Asian and Middle Eastern art, including architectural carvings, ethnic jewellery, and textile designs as well as the natural world. Her work is produced in soft, subtle shades and is left unglazed to give a raw, organic and contemporary quality to each piece.
Jenny completed her BA(Hons) in ceramics at Plymouth College of Art and now works from her studio in Ashbrittle. She will be selling a variety of her ceramic art at Stawley Mill during the
10 Parishes Festival.
